Relationships and reality

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

It is easy, when you are young, to believe that what you desire is no less than what you deserve. To assume that if you want something bad enough you will end up having it.

When I remember some important relationships in my past that I somehow didn’t know how to manage, or outright blew off, I just hope my hardly acquired wisdom and experience will help me avoid making similar mistakes from now on. However, knowing how I often mistook passion for insight and acted according to faulty logic, I often question if that is likely.

Passion is a poor substitute for clarity of mind, and relationships are poor receptacles for dreams, as they have their way of unravelling at their own pleasure, just like the waters of a river follow the path that suits them most.

Being cool

376591423_c0b3889fc6Sometimes, we expect or even fall in love with the characters that people play and forget that they’re also real people. Popular culture makes us view people by such high standards, always free of trouble and cool all the time. Invariably, we become attracted to that image even though no one is really like that.

For the same reasons, clients often fall in love with escorts. Fans fall in love with their famous idols. They see them when they’re perfect, well dressed, and focused on doing whatever is it they do very well. They dosn’t meet those same idols when they are in the supermarket, having a bad day, or with a bad case of PMS.

It’s much like falling in love with Batman, there is no link to reality. Especially because at the end of the day, Batman is just Bruce Wayne. No one ever sees Batman washing the Batmobile or going to Jiffy Lube for an oil change. In movies, they’re never doing maintenance, they’re only ever enjoying.

Similarly, people who study sexual behavior in the last three or four decades have noticed how porn has been changing the expectations people have about sex. In the past, we expected a more romantic sexual experience.  Now, because of the availability of porn, most of the population expects the other person to perform like a porn star. Because very few people can do it, expectations often come crashing down.

Relationships: easy to get into, hard to maintain. Why are they so hard to maintain? Because it’s hard to keep up the lie. ’Cause you can’t get nobody being you. You got to lie to get somebody. You can’t get nobody looking like you look, acting like you act… sounding like you sound. When you meet somebody for the first time, you’re not meeting them. You’re meeting their representative. – Chris Rock

We should recognize whether we’re meeting with the person or their representative. If you’re going to put forth any kind of image, you should keep in mind that the image is tarnishable. At some point the person will get to know you for who you really are. If you create a character it tends to lead to disappointment.

However, if you want someone to have a cool image of you, don’t do any maintenance in front of them. Make this policy part of who you are, not just something you do. Reserve time for yourself, time alone, and do all the maintenance during that time.

Faust

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

geuu_02_img0275jpgFaust or Faustus (Latin for “auspicious” or “lucky”) is the protagonist of a classic German legend who makes a pact with the Devil in exchange for knowledge.

The story concerns the fate of Faust in his quest for the true essence of life. Frustrated with learning and the limits to his knowledge and power, he attracts the attention of the Devil (represented by Mephistopheles), who agrees to serve Faust until the moment he attains the zenith of human happiness, at which point Mephistopheles may take his soul. Faust is pleased with the deal, as he believes the moment will never come.

In the first part, Mephistopheles leads Faust through experiences that culminate in a lustful and destructive relationship with an innocent and nubile woman named Gretchen. Gretchen and her family are destroyed by Mephistopheles’ deceptions and Faust’s desires and actions. The story ends in tragedy as Gretchen is saved and Faust is left in shame.

The second part begins with the spirits of the earth forgiving Faust (and the rest of mankind) and progresses into rich allegorical poetry. Faust and his devil pass through the world of politics and the world of the classical gods, and meet with Helen of Troy (the personification of beauty). Finally, having succeeded in taming the very forces of war and nature Faust experiences a single moment of happiness.

The devil Mephistopheles, trying to grab Faust’s soul when he dies, is frustrated as the Lord intervenes recognizing the value of Faust’s unending striving.

Faust wanted something valuable now and believed he could pay up at the end. Or even better, he believed he could get away with not paying at all. Throughout the story he realizes that for everything he got there was something he lost. The suffering and disappointment were the price to pay very step of the way.

I believe the lesson here is that we always pay the price upfront. Always. There are no shortcuts. There are no gifts. Even when we think we are getting something for cheap we are still paying dearly for it, we just don’t see yet how much.

A free and adventurous woman

2128802035_417998ec32_20080916105507_510jpgIf she is already mature and liberated, happily exploring her sensuality, she will appreciate having a partner that is equally open-minded and sophisticated. If she is not quite there yet I can be the person that she can feel comfortable with and trust deeply enough to experiment and not feel judged or inadequate.

I learned and saw by experience that when a woman sees that you care about her and that you are sincere, when she trusts that you will not judge her or hurt her, if she believes she can trust your guidance, she will turn into a sexual being beyond your wildest dreams. All that stuff you saw in the porn movies and though you would never find a partner to do those crazy things with… she will do all that and much much more.

Women love sex, certainly more than men love sex. A liberated woman with an appetite to satisfy her needs and desires becomes a monster you can’t feed if you don’t put plenty of attention to it.

“I’m a scary judge of talent”

Al Pacino as Walter Burke

Al Pacino as Walter Burke

I loved that phrase from Al Pacino’s character Walter Burke, in the movie The Recruit.

I am a very good judge of value. After a few years studying human behavior and practicing, interviewing people for jobs and gigs, negotiating, and handling the volatile material that composes human interactions, I became very sensitive and capable of detecting the patterns of conversation and behavior that elicit what I want to know about people.

Most people have low self-esteem, but at the same time try [hard] to project more value than they have. Both women and men tend to have this shortcoming: They have value that they don’t know how to demonstrate. And they lack value that they try to bullshit you into thinking they have. That happens quite often actually; particularly by people hustling or bullshitting you.

I detect that fast, I detect it soon, and in general I avoid people like that.

Having a curious attitude

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

One can only learn by deliberately seeking knowledge and practice, instead of waiting to figure it our with time. Seduction, sensuality, and relationships are not things you should learn by trial and error. You also can’t develop it very much naturally. Many people say “I like to have my relationships develop naturally” and they are usually the ones working very hard all the time, trying to fix and manage their relationships!

I constantly identify aspects I want to develop in my life, then I read about them, find ways to improve them, and practice a new way to live and handle that part of my life.

My ways of persuading and attracting people are uncommon, but effective. I didn’t learn them reading magazines or going to college for years. They come to be from years of experience negotiating, persuading, interviewing, and studying with masters of influence: writers, investigators, salesmen, politicians, magicians, public speakers, pick up artists. They all have one thing in common: If they don’t persuade they don’t get what they want.

Bridget – 2: Sex a  la carte

Friday, March 13th, 2009

One night after a particularly rough sex section, we were talking about fantasies and how we liked sex in creative and advanced ways, and we began listing things we have done and things we would like to do. She had a notepad and a pen near her bed. She took it and began a list. First e made a list of all things sexual we have done already. Our lists made a bout a page each and we not too dissimilar. But when we started listing what we haven’t tried yet that list was long! We tried to remember everything we ever saw in movies, ever heard of from friends and acquaintances, and anything else that came to mind that night. The only limits we set were “no kids, no animals, and safe sex”. We listed both things we have never experienced and thought we would like, and also things we didn’t experience and were not sure at all if we would like. We crossed out things we were absolutely sure we didn’t want to try, so I had an opportunity to cross out “having sex with another man”, and we crossed out most, but not all, of the more extreme kinky stuff that sounded totally disgusting for both of us.

At this point the question was already in the air and someone had to say it, so I said it first:

“Let’s try it all!”

“Twice.” – she replied. – “Because to be sure you don’t like something you need to try at least twice.”

It was like laying out the menu of all (not all but most) the sexual practices known to us and deciding to try everything that we could handle. The intention was to find out where were the limits of our personal interests and tolerances.

During the next 6 weeks we had slow romantic sex and very rough sex, tried all types of things in BDSM, had sex in public places, got caught doing it. We had sex in front of other people and watched others doing it. Had threesomes with other girls and other men as well. We had sex together, over the phone, with and without clothes. We went to swinger clubs, kinky clubs, peep shows, strip clubs, and spent hundreds of dollars at the sex shops buying all sorts of toys and novelties, and we tried them all. We had sex at home, restaurants, our cars, public parks, clubs, other people’s homes, dungeons, abandoned buildings, roadside gas stations, rooftops, elevators, balconies, cheap motels, libraries, tents, a jacuzzi, the bathtub, the kitchen, and a toolshed.

When we liked something we marked it done. When we didn’t like it we tried it again, then marked it done. It was exhausting and was only possible because our thirst for knowledge and our curiosity were larger than our physical exhaustion and the logistical challenges we faced.

The result is that we pretty much “mapped” the territory of our sexual interests, and in doing so we discovered the latitude of our interests was significantly bigger than we thought before. In my feelings Bridget was like my soul mate, the one who was my partner in a journey of self discovery that, even though individual in nature, took a partner to make it possible. What a privilege it was to have such good company along the way. She was sexy, understanding, patient, enthusiastic, and friendly at all times. Even though our lives just crossed paths for that short period, I can definitely say it was one of the best times of my life, and I know whoever is at her side today must be a very happy man (or woman).

Sensual awakening

Monday, March 9th, 2009

1298349_20090104173126_510jpg1Sensual awakening releases the most intense energy and source of physical comfort and happiness there is. Nothing (even drugs?) can release tension and stress and improve your well being like sexual satisfaction.

It seems to me that if you look at all the problems that affect human beings, sexual needs and relationship dysfunctions seem to be on the root of nearly everything.

If you have good relationships and satisfy your sexual needs frequently what else is left to worry about in life? Oh, there is money, OK. I am so happy now that I almost forgot about money!

Fantasies

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

If you had a chance to try anything one time, what would that be?

The question suggests “trying anything without consequences” and that is territory of fantasies, sexual in nature or not. The fundamental component of fantasies is that they exist only for their elasticity, their ability to instantly incorporate any new character, image or idea – or, as in dreams, to which they bear so close a relationship – to contain conflicting ideas simultaneously. They expand, heighten, distort or exaggerate reality, taking one further, faster in the direction in which the unashamed unconscious already knows it wants to go. They present the astonished self with the incredible, the opportunity to entertain the impossible*.

One of the greatest discoveries I had during these last few years was to learn that women also have and express their fantasies in ways that are more rich and interesting than men. Nacy Friday’s book and some others were like finding a little window with a view to another world.

How I became an expert

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

are-you-an-expertjpgThat is something that happens backwards. First I learned a lot of “stuff”: Techniques, methods, solutions and protocols. I thought I was very skillful, but the most important was still missing. As I met women that were more experienced, more advanced, and more sensual than I ever seen before, that opened my eyes to a very simple fact: What makes you an “expert” is not your resources and devices and methods, but your capacity to connect to women emotionally. Being capable to feel them, learn from them, but most of all love them deeply, is what makes you a man they want to be with. And we know that love is the only binding that truly holds.

I then became secure enough to laugh at myself and the absurdities of life.  Courageous enough to accept assistance. Open minded enough to learn new things. Strong enough to grow. My tools are mind, body, spirit and soul with a little help from rope, handcuffs and blindfold. I understand that each partner gains most from pleasuring the other.
